Jonathan's Baptism

The baptism went well, I had to do it twice because at the end of the first time I didn’t say “amen”.

Hmph! Amen. I mean I asked the bishop how we had to do the baptism and he gave me the verbage (which I totally instantly tried to commit to memory and due to immense mental exertion and concentration of willpower and focus... I got correct) but no one told me it was a prayer. So does everything we do in the church have to have an amen at the end of it.

Apparently, YES!

I will have to keep this in mind whenever I am near a church house.

So I had to do it again and ended it with a loud AMEN then dunked him extra far down just to make sure nothing was poking up out of the surface. It was awesome.

Afterwards we had the confirmation then went to our house and had snacks. It was kinda in between lunch and dinner so we didn’t plan anything too elaborate.

WATER CATAPULT...

This summer, our scout group made catapults out of pvc pipe and shot water balloons at each other. The catapults were not that powerful and only shot the balloons about 4 feet. In fact, due to the fact that I bought the wrong type of balloon (the helium kind) they often would not explode, so we would pick it up and re-shoot it back at the other group. If it did break, the splash was pretty minimal. All in all it was a blast and no one really got soaked.

Magna Triathelon 2008

Magna Triathelon. We did it as a team. The only team in the triathelon. So we won first place. When I say we, I mean the Kids did it. I didn't really do anything, in fact, I just would go along side of them and encourage them to keep going. They did real good - especially since we really didn't do much to train.

Summer is over...

Blah! It doesn't take much to get way behind. So many events I should have recorded but didn't.

So let me explain. ... No there is too much. Let me sum up.

Jonathan and David go to cub scout camp. Loads of fun. Laura, Alysen and Jenny go to girl scout camp with the girl scout troop. Loads of fun. All three kids attend summer Youth Theater Camp and are in various productions put on by their classes.

Flufferia the guinea pig died of old age, we buried her. Laura's co-worker leaves to go to grad school at Harvard, and can't take his dog. Laura offers to foster the dog in our back yard. We purchase 2 new guinea pigs, named them "Squeekers" and "Pepsi". Total number of pets at the Krummenacher household - 1 labrador dog, 3 guinea pigs.

Kids go to Grandma & Grandpa Krummenachers for 3 weeks. David forms bond with "Prince" whom he calls and refers to as "the puppy" unless he is mad at the puppy. David and the puppy go on walks, runs and hikes up in the hills around Centerville. The puppy loves to hike, run, walk or just know where everyone in the house is at any given time. The puppy hates to be outside by himself.

Jonathan turns 8. Bishop of our ward wants David to baptise Jonathan, but says he won't approve it unless David commits to getting a temple recommend again. (I haven't had one for about 4 years now, but that is another issue. Nothing serious hindering me, it was a personal decision.)

Kids return to Centerville. David and kids do a triathalon together. Alysen takes the swimming leg, Jennica does the bike ride and Jonathan runs the footrace. David does all three along with his kids.

Alysen and Jennica go to a second girl scout camp, for a week, this time alone and seperate from their troop or any parent. They come back after a week and report a great time was had by all.

School starts back up, David start teaching a class at the Salt Lake Community College for some extra cash in addition to his regular job at KUED. Laura takes a new job as the Choir Instructor at Wasatch Elementary (and nominally head of music at Wasatch) and continues teaching at the 17th South Montessori school. She selectively teaches private music and singing lessons.

David getting ready to be the cub scout leader again this year for Jonathan's Wolf Den. Laura feeling overwhelmed with all the work and planning for her new position at Wasatch. David and Laura get their recommend again. I broke down and became a card carrying member. Jonathan gets baptised.

September is here and I am super busy getting things ready to go to High Definition at the station. It is fun and daunting at the same time. So I will try to post some photos soon.

Photos of old friends...

Just some photos of old friends and classmates that I met with and spent some time catching up, when last I was in Arizona (February 2008). The first is Norm and his wife Mary. I have known Norm almost my whole life. I remember playing with him when we were five years old.

The second photo is of one of my best friends from High School. He and I had a lot of the same interests, especially in art. Travis is a professional artist and an art instructor down in Tucson, Ariz.

I also visited a friend from my 4th grade, Christian and his wife Leslie, but have those photos stored on Laura laptop. I will get those someday and put them up here too.

I have had these photos on my computer for quite some time now, it feels good to finally get them posted.

Ode to my sunglasses, where ever they landed...

I loved these sunglasses that are perched on my head in this photo. But now they are gone. Last Saturday we went to Lagoon, which is only about 4-5 miles away from our house for an afternoon of family fun. For those who are not familiar with Utah, and specifically the Salt Lake area, Lagoon is a permanent amusement park that was built in 1896. At that time, it boasted shady groves and a small lake, (man made? I don't really know,) from which it got it's name. It has grown since that time, and includes roller-coasters, bumper cars, other amusement rides, some of the smaller kiddie rides, a miniature steam train and track, an informal zoo and many outdoor pavilions which host concerts and the such. Later in the eighties, they added a water park called Lagoon-a-Beach and more water rides.

We decided to purchase a season pass for the family. And we plan to haunt Lagoon this summer.

So we showed up that Saturday, got our season passes and entered the grounds as if we owned the place, at a nice leisurely stroll, knowing we could come and go at our pleasure. And promptly lost my glasses on the third roller coaster ride we went on. When I was a kid, we called that roller coaster the Collosus, but in order to add new life to the ride, they renamed it "Fire Dragon" It is a ride I remember as a kid, because it does a loop de loop, not once, but twice. In a word... "thrilling". As as we were on the coaster train I got a seat to my self. Normally you have 2 people to a seat but I got a seat alone. As we were on the ride, after the double loop, the ride jolted left - my body jolted right and as I corrected myself my glasses left me for good. I didn't see it but I imagine it sailed gracefully off.

For me, it put a damper on the whole day. Now I can't walk by that ride without scanning the ground hoping to find my sunglasses. As if they would have been thrown clear from the ride and are just waiting for someone to pick them up.

I kept visiting the Lost & Found to the point that the young woman working that booth would see me coming and start shaking her head to let me know that "Nope, no new sunglasses had been turned in since the last time you checked." Something in me is eternally optimistic so I kept going back. They could be there right now, as you read this post. She was sympathetic but I don't think she really felt my pain. I am pretty sure my family did though, as I kept directing them back to the sad little shack where my hopes would be dashed again.

Now I resigned to the fact that they are gone.

It's tough.

I guess I will just have to deal with the loss, one day at a time.

And I need a new pair of sunglasses.

Dave against hillside

Hiking around Centerville the past several Saturdays has been / is a very pleasant experience. It is amazing how much wilderness is out there and only 2 blocks away. As we wander up the switchbacks along the hillside to the east of our house and look out over the valley to the Great Salt Lake to the west of Centerville I am impressed with the vast amount of beauty that is in abundance around. Just waiting for someone to come along and observe it. If it isn't observed, does that mean it is wasted? Like a painting in a fashionable gallery, it doesn't do much good if the art is not appreciated. So this photo is of me, as the critic, observing and enjoying the scenery around.

I have started painting again, I gave one of my paintings to my friend Rich for his birthday. I am hoping to continue painting / exploring through painting as I am inspired by the landscapes around us.

That and I need to go camping again.
